i've heard the words only you think that you hear in the way you just barely show up and then disappear. fade away, seeking safety from the fall. slip away before finding your back to the wall. the spaces in conversation left open wide: a disorienting battleground, without any supplies. sneak out! amidst the burning clouds of smoke, let the volume play its natural part as your own private cloak. try hard or not at all but your brain just works that way and the tomorrow that you're afraid of just becomes yesterday. an evening with no prospect left to haunt, wondering what exactly it is that you want. you walk up to the neon lights and hesitate before proceeding to walk through that sliding door... maybe we just need to implant some new voices to contradict the ones we are used to. i can offer up some space, i can offer up an ear, i can offer up a ride to somewhere far away from here.
